Bobby Hillin, Jr.
The Founder of T-Rex, Bobby Hillin, Jr., spent the bulk of his career (1982-2000) as a professional driver in the highly competitive environment of NASCAR racing. In 1986 at the age of 22, Hillin became the youngest driver in the modern era of Winston Cup racing to win an event, and the youngest driver ever to win on a super speedway. In 2001, Hillin formed Texas ReExcavation (T-Rex). Since inception, T-Rex has provided vacuum excavation and vacuum services to multiple companies, governmental agencies and contractors, delivering safe, fast and non-destructive solutions to complex and challenging projects. T-Rex solutions impact all phases of project work – including design, engineering, construction and maintenance. In 2008, T-Rex acquired GSPE Inc. and formed a new division, T-Rex Engineering & Construction, which provides turnkey solutions from engineering and design to product manufacturing for the offshore oil and gas industry.
 

 

 

Gary Quenan
Gary Quenan has over 35 years of Executive Management, Project Management & Engineering experience in Upstream Oil and Gas. Over the past 15 years founded and led as President/CEO/COB OPE Inc., a leading deepwater pipeline and subsea engineering firm with offices in Houston, Texas, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and Trinidad. During this time Mr. Quenan led the proprietary technology development of a Deepwater Floater from concept to project ready. Project managed pipeline installations, quarters’ moves, and deep-water pipeline and umbilical connections in North Sea, South China Sea and Gulf of Mexico. Varied experience in design, estimating, bidding, fabrication, installation, Project Management and Corporate Management. Gary demonstrated engineering design and construction management expertise in the design, fabrication, and installation of more than 18 platforms off East Coast of Malaysia.
 

 

Gary A. Sidwell, PE, SECB
Gary A. SidwellPrincipal Engineer and Founder of GSPE Inc. in 1986, Sidwell has over 30 years of professional engineering experience in offshore projects. He spent 18 of those years in subsea development for water depths ranging from 2900 to 9800 feet. This included analysis, design, fabrication and installation. Sidwell is a registered professional engineer in Texas and Colorado and a board certified structural engineer with The National Council of Structural Engineering Association. He is also an active member of the Structural Engineering Association of Texas. Sidwell holds a B.S. and Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Wyoming.

Lawrence Cloudt
Lawrence CloudtMr. Cloudt brings 12 years of experience to the T-Rex family in the design of structural assemblies and project management. With 7 years of experience in the design, manufacture and testing of equipment for NASA’s Space Shuttle and International Space Station projects, Cloudt adhered to strict specifications and project requirements and brings the ability to balance difficult requirements to the subsea market. Cloudt also has experience in the subsea industry in the manufacturing and testing of subsea components and systems, development of weld procedures and the management of QC and HSE programs. Cloudt received his B.A. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Houston and holds a B.S. in Mathematics from the University of St. Thomas.

Tim Thompson
Tim ThompsonTim Thompson is Vice President of Global Business Development and Communications for T-Rex. With over 20 years of extensive marketing, international trade, political and government relations experience, Thompson is an integral part of the T-Rex strategic business development team. He is one of few to have served in both President George H.W. Bush’s and President George W. Bush’s Administrations in Washington, D.C., as a lead representative in domestic and international affairs. Previously, he founded and led a global consulting firm with concentrations in international business development, government and public relations. In 2010, he was appointed by BP to assist with their strategic communications during the Macondo oil spill crisis in the Gulf of Mexico. Thompson was born in Houston and raised in Midland, TX. He holds a B.B.A. in Finance from the University of Oklahoma and an Executive Certificate in International Business Management from Georgetown University. Additionally he studied Intensive Spanish at the Don Quixote School in Barcelona, Spain. Mr. Thompson is an accomplished amateur golfer and has competed in the prestigious U.S. Mid-Amateur Championship as well as several Texas State Amateur and Mid-Amateur championships. He is a board member of the Texas Golf Association, “R” Club and a member of the Houston District Export Council.

Mike Pyka, CWI
Mike PykaPyka has 8 years experience in the fabrication of subsea equipment and execution of projects to bring to T-Rex. He has 5 years of experience in the management of operations during all phases of subsea projects from fabrication and System Integration Testing to delivery. As well as manufacturing of subsea equipment, Pyka’s diverse background includes manufacturing of downhole tools, machine shop operations, residential and commercial construction projects and automotive and industrial coating. He has developed weld procedures for AWS D1.1, API 1104 and ASME Section IX. Along with Pyka’s technical background he is an excellent team player and professional with a focus on quality, customer satisfaction and job safety. Pyka holds B.S. degree in Manufacturing from Southwest Texas State University.

Lee Walden, PE, SECB
Lee WaldenWalden has over 30 years experience in the analysis, design, and development of 3D solid models that are used in the development of construction documents, bills of materials, part cut sheets, and fabrication of structural assemblies for subsea steel structures in water depths from 3,000 to 9,850 feet in the Gulf of Mexico. He has experience in the analysis and design of structural modules for the conversion of a floating hotel semi-submersible to drilling rig with the ability to work in 7500 of water. Modules included mud pumps, mud pits, SCR house, Shaker house, HPU deck, new engine room. For this same project Mr. Walden was in charge of the global routing review of piping, electrical and mechanical systems in relation to the existing structural and mechanical systems in the ship yard during the semi-submersible conversion. Walden also has experience working with building owners and lending institutions in the review of construction documents, work completed in the field, and applications for payment for commercial construction projects. Also involved in the forensic investigation, analysis, design, and development of construction documents for the repair of failed building structural systems. Lee holds B.S. and Masters degrees in Architectural Engineering, Structural, from Oklahoma State University.
 

 

Mike Gore
With 15+ years of experience in drafting design, information technology, and 3d graphics, Mike Gore brings a unique combination of skills to the T-Rex family. He currently manages the drafting and IT departments, and acts as our technical lead for several software applications. Over the years, Mike has helped design various subsea structures for the Gulf of Mexico and beyond. Since then he has used his experience and techniques to train coworkers to become more proficient with Autodesk Inventor design software and 3ds Max.  Mike has been the subject of Autodesk success stories, and his work has been published in both the Hart Energy and Offshore Engineer publications. Additionally, Mr. Gore is also an experienced 3d animator and graphic designer. By employing a variety of 3d software, he creates complex animations that help our clients convey their high tech design concepts to their design review teams. From an IT perspective, Mike Gore has helped broaden the IT infrastructure from a small single server setup with a handful of users, to a network that spans three physical locations over a fiber optic MPLS network. The IT systems now include 5 servers, 6 NAS devices, 20 switches, and 200+ users. 

 

Francisco Morera, Ph.D
Dr. Francisco Morera is a Staff Engineer at T-Rex.  He worked as Head of the Construction Materials and Geotechnical Laboratories and then as Director of the Civil Engineering Laboratories at Universidad Catolica in Caracas, Venezuela, for 14 years. During this time he was involved in multiple applied research and forensic activities as well as consulting and technical advising for the Civil Engineering industry. He currently holds an E.I.T and is an active member of several engineering associations such as ASCE, AISC , PCI and ACI.  In 1996, while working towards his Master’s degree, he was involved in an extensive research carried at University of Texas at Austin involving a Statistical analysis of a Spar Platform when subjected to irregular waves, under the advisory of Dr. Jose Roesset. He holds a B.S in Civil Engineering from Universidad Catolica, Caracas; a M.Sc. in Civil Engineering from UT Austin and a Ph.D. from North Carolina State University. He has been part of the T-Rex family since February, 2011. He has been involved in several offshore projects that tested his abilities in finite element modeling and analysis, by means of programs such as ANSYS, FEMAP, SACS and ABAQUS, to mention some.
